Rams break loose in fourth

BRADENTON - The Riverview High boys showed that the game of basketball can be pretty simple if you do the right thing.

The Rams did exactly that in the fourth quarter then they broke away from Manatee and never looked back in recording a 47-37 victory over the host Hurricanes on Thursday night.

Both teams struggled in a ragged first half when Riverview (5-1) shot 8 for 26 and Manatee (3-2) was 5 for 22 from the field.

Things started to change in the third quarter though the teams played even. Matt Conway scored all of Riverview's eight points hitting four of five shots on two uncontested layups and two short jumpers as the Rams started to get easy shots.

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 80,

FL. CHRISTIAN INSTITUTE 68

FORT MYERS -- Jordan Negrin led with Bradenton Christian with 24 points, including two three-pointers, as the Panthers coasted to a win against Florida Christian Institute.

Spence Purnell scored 14 points and Jo Jo Wood scored twelve, including three three-pointers.

ODA 54, LAKESIDE CHR. 21

SARASOTA -- Junior Jamie Onufrak scored 18 points as Out-of-Door Academy routed Lakeside Christian.

Stephen Berg had nine points and three steals while Nathan Kalin had eight points and eight rebounds for ODA.

GIRLS

BOOKER 50, BRADEN RIVER 35

SARASOTA -- Brittany Williams notched a double-double to lead Booker past district foe Braden River.

The senior had 12 points, 13 assists and seven steals to lead the Tornadoes (6-1).

Kay Larkins led all scorers with 20 points while Letayvia Butler added six points and a team-high seven boards for Booker.

Brianna Dowling and Heather Mirabella paced the Lady Pirates (5-1) with eight points a piece.

SOUTHEAST 66,

PORT CHARLOTTE 28

BRADENTON -- Junior Bianca Hanna scored 17 points and had seven steals as Southeast cruised past Port Charlotte.

Carolyn Taite had 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Lady Seminoles and teammate Keimara Brooks played the entire game for eight points, nine rebounds, and four steals.

Port Charlotte led Abbi Wik with 12 points.

LAKEWOOD RANCH 69, CHARLOTTE 31

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- Samantha Guadalupe scored 28 points as Lakewood Ranch cruised to a win over Charlotte.

Rachael Kraemer recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Lady Mustangs and Breanna Lindsey scored 13 points and had eight rebounds.

Angela Tumpkins led Charlotte with 15 points.

SARASOTA 36, PLANT CITY 31

SARASOTA -- Freshman Jessica Fischer captained Sarasota to a win over Plant City.

Fischer drained a buzzer-beating three-pointer from halfcourt in the first quarter and also hit a trey from 23 feet as time expired before halftime.

Tylar Tracy and Fischer each scored 14 points to lead the Lady Sailors (5-2, 4-0).

ODA 51, LAKESIDE CHR. 11

SARASOTA -- Senior Rachel Mostert scored 16 points as ODA defeated Lakeside Christian.

Lauren Falahee had three three-pointers and sister Mara Falahee had one three-pointer.
